The Japanese soroban, otherwise known as an abacus, has been used for centuries in markets around the world. Evolving from stones and grooves in the sand, the soroban is now fully realized on the iPad, complete with narrated tutorials. Math has never been so easy!

Design – Theme – Tone

Soroban features various Japanese artistic designs. Thematic backgrounds appear like they are made out of parchment, wood, and stone. Other aspects of the UI design pay homage to Japanese culture.

Soroban also features an original soundtrack composed specifically for this app. The sound design provides a cultural ambience that thematically fits without disturbing the educational environment. Users feel familiar with the consistent abacus design as well as soothed by the high-quality artwork.
